A golden yellow hue in colour. The nose opens with toasted brioche and soft hazelnuts. There is also a wonderful rush of soft stone fruits, peach honey melon and a creamy lemon citrus The palate is clean with a nice acidity pear lemon and a delightful chalk lead mineral finish.

Vincent Durrieu uses mechanical harvesting and a hydraulic press rather than the more modern membrane press. This rougher, longer pressing extracts beneficial components from the skin, perfect for wines designed to be aged. After pressing, the juice is settled and sent to barrel to ferment with its own yeasts. Ageing is for up to 22 months with a maximum of 30% new French oak.

Vincent Durrieu is the fifth generation of this family to work the domain, continuing with very traditional Burgundian methods. The Domaine Potinet-Ampeau is situated in the village of Monthelie in the southern part of the Cote de Beaune, near to Meursault, Volnay and Auxey-Duresses. The domain works 21.5 acres and produces as much red as white in appellations in the villages of Puligny-Montrachet, Meursault, Auxey-Duresses, Volnay, Pommard and Monthelie.

Exquisite

Exquisite. The fragrance and flavour notes are a joy, everything beautifully balanced, including the acidity. I had this with chicken in white-wine sauce for lunch on Easter Sunday. Delicious! I’ve ordered another bottle.
